NOPCAN holds fundraiser to fight child abuse
The Ministry of Human Development has contracted the services of the National Organization for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect to assist them in confronting the problems that occur in dysfunctional families. NOPCAN, which has traditionally addressed the issue of abuse, is now focusing its attention on prevention and how best the organization can reach out to those children who are affected. NOPCAN depends largely on financial support from the public and international agencies and one annual activity that is held to raise money at home is a night of dinner and theatre. The event takes place on Friday night and once again, NOPCAN is counting on your support.
Denbigh York, Sr., Acting Director, NOPCAN
“Actually, in order for us to sustain our programmes we have what is referred to as a comprehensive child abuse prevention programme. And within that programme are some smaller programmes which from time to time we receive funding for from the traditional funding sources, which are some agencies from abroad. And most of those agencies, up to this time, the funds are drying up; therefore we have to look for alternatives.”
The dinner gets underway at seven p.m. at the Belize Biltmore Plaza. Tickets are seventy five dollars each and can be purchased at either NOPCAN or the Biltmore. There will also be special cultural presentations and an auction featuring Belizean jewellery and paintings.
