Football team refuses police search
The Police Department has issued a statement regarding an incident at a checkpoint involving a bus carrying Kulture Yabra football players and fans to a game in Cayo on Saturday. According to police, an officer at a checkpoint near Red Creek Village boarded the bus with the intention of carrying out a routine inspection. However, Corporal Faux says that the occupants refused to comply. The bus was detained and the passengers got off as a group, but still refused to be searched and instead headed for San Ignacio on foot. Faux reported searching the empty bus and finding a small quantity of marijuana under one of the seats. No one was charged and the bus went on its way. The Police Department says while it is not targeting any particular group, neither will any group be treated as above the law. The public is asked to cooperate with all searches conducted at police checkpoints, and is reminded that the police are mandated to enforce the law.
