B.N.T.U. Prepares for Meeting with Prime Minister

Luke Palacio

The Teachers’ Union is preparing for a busy week ahead, and not just in the classroom. According to National President Luke Palacio, they have invited the Prime Minister to a meeting concerning a proposal made to them on Friday. While the specifics of the proposal are being kept under the lid, the meeting is scheduled to take place after Independence Day.

“We know that a proposal was made on Friday afternoon during that meeting – I know you have to go back to your membership about it, but can you give any details?”

Luke Palacio, National President, B.N.T.U.

“No, we cannot give any details, but what we can say is that we have written to the Prime Minister, asking him to meet with us on Thursday; he – I don’t know if he has given a response because I haven’t seen that, but we intend to meet with him on Thursday, and then on Friday we will say to our members what our next move is. Since the Prime Minister has responded and asked us to a meeting, we are asking our teachers, okay, let us put on hold the original plan we had; so that on Thursday we give that opportunity, for the Prime Minister to meet with us, respond to the issues we have raised with him – he has provided some response – but we are prepared, again like we said, as a professional organization, to meet, to discuss and then on Friday we will instruct our members as what’s our next move.”

Palacio says classes will resume as usual on Tuesday; for Wednesday’s Independence Day parades, teachers are being asked to wear their green “Teachaz Gat Yu Bak” t-shirts.
