1st set of Master’s Degree in Public Health granted
On Saturday, the first set of students in a Master’s Degree programme in public health will graduate during a ceremony at the Radisson Fort George. The programme, which started in 2002, is aimed at preparing experienced health professionals to assume leadership roles as members of multi disciplinary teams which will develop public health projects. The distance course is conducted by teachers from the University of South Florida in conjunction with the University of Belize and the Ministry of Health.

?We have ten students graduating. We started with thirteen, one migrated to the States, unfortunately, and two other dropped out for other reasons, but we have ten people graduating on Saturday.”

“Most important is that the faculty do come to Belize and for most of the courses they will be here for a good part of the course. They can be taught over the internet, they can be taught by satellite. And some of the courses are really self-learning and then in instructors are here for part of the course. The first course we have just completed and we are now in the process of both learning from this the things we did, but we hope to start enrolling students this fall for the second group.”
