Nationwide blackout last night
Most Belizeans slept through it, but the entire nation was plunged into an electrical blackout around four-thirty this morning. According to B.E.L.’s public relations department, the total system collapse was caused by a failure at the Xul Ha substation in Mexico. B.E.L. scrambled to get its mile eight gas turbine going and the nationwide grid was re-energized in phases shortly after the blackout. The flow of electricity from Mexico resumed at five-eighteen this morning and by five forty-five, the entire country was back to normal power.
