Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association Issues Support for Teachers
In a late evening press release on Thursday, the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association declared their support for the teachers. The B.S.C.F.A. release states that the demands of the teachers are just as they ensure good governance and respect for workers. The decision to declare their support for the B.N.T.U. came after a Board of Directors meeting on Thursday. The B.S.C.F.A. says that “Many members of the B.S.C.F.A. are teachers, some of whose sons and daughters are also teachers.” and that “the gap between the haves and the have-nots has widened, and the rate of poverty, especially in the sugar belt, has increased significantly with the lack of employment opportunities and economic development.” The B.S.C.F.A. also denounced Government’s intimidation of the teachers union. The release states that Belizeans, as a whole, therefore, have become tired of the promises of politicians to change the corrupt practices when they enter government, and then fail to do so and allow the corrupt system to continue to flourish. In an act of solidarity, the B.S.C.F.A. will close its offices in Corozal and Orange Walk Towns on Monday October third, 2016.
