Elephant Man arrives for concert
It’s a scene that has been played out many times in the past…a throng of media gathered on the tarmac of the Philip Goldson International Airport to welcome a performer, any performer, to a country thirsty for entertainment. However, for a change, this was not some refugee from the recycling bin whose best years, and biggest hits, are way, way in the past. No, the hubbub at the P.G.I.A. this afternoon was well deserved as Belize welcomed Jamaican dancehall artist Elephant Man. With a string of recent hits, a heavily booked concert schedule, and attention from music media heavyweights such as M.T.V. and B.E.T., Elephant Man arrives in Belize as one of the region’s rising stars.
Elephant Man
“Yup, Good to go. Yes Belize, this Elephant Man live and in living colour. What’s the Elephant all about? I’m about making music, making people feel good, making people feel happy.”
“Why should people come to the show tomorrow? Because it’s going to be a great show, it’s going to be off the hook. Tomorrow it’s going to be crazy. You need to come over to the show, come request your songs, come hear what you wanna. You need to come to the show or you’re gonna miss one of the biggest events ever. This is Elephant Man, the energy god in town. Mad, sick, ih noh good, ih gone, shizzle.”
When asked by reporters about the origin of his stage name, Elephant Man supplied an answer that is not appropriate to repeat on a family newscast. However a quick check of the Internet informs us that he received his nickname do to his very large…ears. We also discovered that Elephant Man has a passion for plus sized women; something that may be of interest to any big boned Belizean gals going to the show.
Performing on the bill with Elephant Man are fellow Jamaicans Bogle and Kiprich, along with Belize’s very own Indio. Doors at the City Centre open at eight Friday night.
