Breaking News: Hurricane Matthew, A Category 4 Storm, Lurks in the Caribbean
The National Met Service is asking Belizeans to keep an eye on Hurricane Matthew over the weekend. In an advisory sent late this evening, the Met Service says that they and NEMO are closely monitoring a powerful Category Four Hurricane Matthew. It has winds of one hundred and forty miles per hour and is moving West South West at nine miles per hour. The system is more than one thousand miles away from Belize and is expected to make a turn to the North during the course of the weekend. The advisory states that, “Even though Matthew poses no threat to Belize and the extreme western Caribbean, persons living on the cayes, in flood prone areas, fisher folks, and farmers are advised to monitor Hurricane Matthew in the event that the northward turn does not materialize over the weekend. NEMO national and district committees will be notified to monitor and prepare for any developments associated with powerful Hurricane Matthew.” The Met Service and NEMO will continue to monitor the hurricane.
