B.N.T.U. Extends Strike Action for 2 Days

The Belize National Teachers Union is stepping up its Stand Up for Belize Campaign and a nationwide successful strike organized by the Belize National Teachers’ Union beginning on Monday will continue for at least the next two days, on Wednesday and Thursday. That means that most schools will remain closed for at least that long. At a meeting at their national headquarters in Belize City this afternoon, Belize District Branch president Kathleen Flowers told an approving audience that the B.N.T.U. is in this for the long haul – but that they cannot achieve their objectives alone. She called on other organizations to step up to the plate and join the Union in its continued fight for good governance.

“Let me give you that long awaited announcement. And strike action continues. We shall not be moved. Despite what will come up cause it will come with that announcement, we will stand out ground.  We are standing our ground until we get a feeling that we have a solid enough batter up to come in—not just a feeling, but we know where the feeling will come from because we are working a process. When we get a solid enough feeling and an indication from the persons we are calling on, then we will say here’s the baton, the relay continues. Because B.N.T.U. has moved this stagnant ship from out the dock and it is sailing up the bay on our campaign. But we have to at some point in time tell other people since we are standing for country, it belongs to all of us, and unu have to come onboard. And so we will be working that process believe you me, we are working the machinery behind the scenes, just like how the party weh di run the country right now di do fi deh dutty work behind the scenes…cause dehn di do some mean dutty business.”
