Lotto winner uses children’s ages

It may have taken her a week to claim her prize, but today a very camera shy Aurora Roberts of Orange Walk walked into Tropical Gaming Company and claimed her prize of seventy-two thousand five hundred dollars. Roberts, a single mother with four children, won the money after her numbers were drawn on Wednesday night. She says the numbers 15-6-7-13 and 12 represent the ages of her loved ones. Roberts says she was on her way to buy another lotto ticket when she discovered she was already a winner.

“I was going to buy another thinking it was Saturday and it was Friday when I found out that I won.”

Jacqueline Woods

“You saw the numbers?”

Aurora Roberts

“Yeah.”

Jacqueline Woods

“You had to double check to make sure they were the numbers?”

Aurora Roberts

“Yes, I double check.”

Jacqueline Woods

“You screamed, frightened everybody around you?”

Aurora Roberts

(Laughs) “No.”

Jacqueline Woods

“What you plan to do with the winnings?”

Aurora Roberts

“I am happy because I owe a lot, so I have enough money I think to pay what I owe.”

After taxes Roberts takes home sixty-one thousand six hundred and twenty-five dollars. She believes that after paying off her debts she will have some money left to help further her children’s educations.
