ICA Closes Audio Technicians’ Course

For the second year in a row, an audio technician course was held at by the Institute of Creative Arts organized by Audio and Sound Technician Whitfield Welch. The program targets musicians and technical persons involved in the audio industry. Over twenty participants, including eleven new applicants, learned about the basics of the audio, blending sounds and ensuring that listeners get the best experience at conferences, variety shows, concerts and a and other events. According to Welch, trained technicians are now available for hire to meet the demands in the country.

“I take it from the ABC stage. The same way how they took me in school is it came from an approach that you didn’t know anything about audio. So we had an introduction to audio and after that you get to learn that the equipments were easier to comprehend and to learn because the basics were there. So once you knew the basics about audio then all the equipment were very easy to teach. We had eleven students that were new and then we also had some students from the past class that came for a refresher course. We had one female this year and we had a female last year; so the female from last year will be graduating this year. I am happy to know that females are interested in the audio industry also. Being from studying in the United States and also doing concerts in the United States, when I spoke with the artist from there and I say I am a Belizean, there are kinda leery because of experiences in Belize. And today I can still stand here and say the same. If you don’t know the right way to do stage—or even if you know and you’re not doing it the right way, then the international artists are exposed to this stuff so when they come in and they see artists doing this—they see our Belizeans doing sound and stuff like that—then they expect us to be on the same level. And most of them leave disappointed and I hear about it. So it is really sad, but I am making a big impact on the audio industry and I hope that we will continue to do this.”
