Still No Decision by Chamber of Commerce on Support for Teachers
The strike by teachers continues in the headlines tonight, but for how long will the industrial action be sustained? One powerful organization that has not come out clearly in support of the Belize National Teachers Union is the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Chamber is in a polling process to determine how its members would respond to the B.N.T.U.’s call for solidarity. Senator representing the Chamber, Mark Lizarraga, attended the teachers’ rally, saying that the teachers are championing similar national issues as the business community.
Mark Lizarraga, Senator, Business Community
“The business community as we speak ahs sent out a survey to its membership asking them to propose actions that the business community can take in solidarity with these shared positions. So I expect that the business community will be making a proclamation pretty soon as to its way forward.”
