P.M. offers little new on B.T.L. deal
Days after it was confirmed that Jeffrey Prosser’s Innovative Communication Company has purchased seventy-eight percent of Belize Telecommunications Limited, details of the agreement are still hard to come by. Amidst speculation that the public may not like the fine print, Prime Minister Said Musa today offered little more information about the deal, preferring instead to highlight government’s satisfaction with the sale and displeasure over the stance of the Opposition United Democratic Party.
Prime Minister Said Musa
“We are very pleased that it has come to this point and we are hoping that the matter now will be concluded with the transfer of the shares and the money on the thirty-first of March, which is next Wednesday.”
Janelle Chanona
“Are you planning to release the details of the agreement at any point?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“Yes, the details will be released as we go along, yes.”
Janelle Chanona
“But there is no timeframe?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“No.”
Reporter
“Any time after the deal is sealed?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“After the deal is sealed in the sense of the actual completion, which takes place on the thirty-first, further details will be made available.

“What’s your response to the Opposition’s take on this whole scenario…kinda threatening the Prosser group?”
Prime Minister Said Musa
“The Opposition has been adopting an obstructionist, negative, speculative, and I think very irresponsible approach to this whole matter. And one is forced to wonder what is their agenda, who is paying the piper in this case, as to why they would have wanted to scuttle the deal, for what I believe would be a very good deal for Belize and for the consumers of telephone services in Belize.”
I.C.C. will officially take ownership of Belize Telecommunications Limited on April first.
