Teenager found murdered in Libertad
A brutal murder has taken place in the Corozal District. This evening, all hopes of finding sixteen year old Elia Gonzales alive were dashed as the teenager’s body was found near the municipal water tank on the feeder road that connects Concepcion and Libertad villages. On Tuesday evening, the Gonzales family of Libertad became concerned after their daughter failed to return from school. Gonzales, a second form student at Corozal Community College, regularly used the route to reach home. When she failed to arrive at the usual time between three and three-thirty that afternoon, the family reported the matter to police. Today around two p.m. a cane farmer and his workers were reversing their truck in the area and made the gruesome discovery. Reports are that Gonzales’ hands were tied behind her back and her uniform was pulled up above her waist. Marks observed around the girl’s neck suggest that she may have been strangled and possibly raped. According to a Corozal Community College spokesperson, Gonzales attended school on Tuesday, and nothing appeared to be amiss. According to the school’s management, Gonzales will be greatly missed and remembered as a quiet student who did well in her studies. Corozal police at this time have no suspects but it is strongly believed that Gonzales was accosted shortly after she got off a bus and started on her usual walk home.
