Vega’s Rival Monchi Cervantes Ready for Bye-Election in Constituency

Ramon ‘Monchi’ Cervantes

Still on Vega….his political opponent in Orange Walk North is P.U.P. standard bearer Ramon ‘Monchi’ Cervantes Junior.  Both politicians have a history of enmity which includes a lawsuit filed against Cervantes Junior for allegedly defaming Vega’s character.  In the wake of Vega’s fall from grace, the media turned to Cervantes Junior.  Cervantes says that if a bye-election were to be called he would offer himself once again for candidacy and voters in that constituency are prepared to return to the polls.

“In view of all the scandals that have been revealed then because they have been happening in the Ministry of Lands a long time ago and I think even the Prime Minister had acknowledged it sometime in Los Angeles I believe. So being caught in the act, I think that would be the decent and reasonable thing for him to do, to resign because it is things of his making.”

“Could we ask you your reaction to what has recently been revealed of the situation with Sharon Pitts [and] Andre Vega where they received money from the Ministry of Lands?”

Gaspar Vega

Ramon ‘Monchi’ Cervantes

“That is something also that has been happening before. That had been happening before and like I said, until now it is being revealed and it is being taken seriously. I think those are very serious actions, those are criminal actions as far as I can say and I think those people should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Because it is a robbery of the people; it is a robbery of the people’s money, of the taxpayers’ money, especially in the backdrop right now of where the government is saying they can’t pay the three percent to the teachers—to wait for next year. And now you have the minister’s son making four hundred thousand dollars in one overnight, one land transaction. And I also understand Miss Pitts also making so much money when our people are suffering; they can’t even pay for their children to go to school. Those are things I see every day. They can’t pay to go to school, they can’t pay for their medical tests and to see the doctors and these people are squandering the money on themselves—enriching themselves at the people’s cost.”

Reporter

“Sir, nobody knows what could happen, but in the event that Gaspar Vega decided to make his exit tumultuous in the fashion of resigning in Orange Walk North, are you prepared if there should be a bye-election?”

Ramon ‘Monchi’ Cervantes

“Of course. Like I said I think that is the right thing to do. He should resign; in fact, he must resign in view of all these scandals that have been revealed and there is no covering up of this. Of course I am still in politics and I will run the race if and when a bye-election is called. And I am ready; the people of Orange Walk are ready to make that change.”
