Was Alleged Arson Related to Weekend Shooting Incident?
But was the fire an act of arson? Gill believes that the fire stemmed from a shooting incident on Saturday, three days before her house was set ablaze. She explains how she narrowly escaped being shot in what police say was a crossfire between two individuals.
Shantia Gill, Fire Victim
“From since Saturday night when there was a shooting incident, from then after leaving the police station, my kids and I were staying at my mother-in-law’s house. And within that time, I have been back and forth to the police station over at Raccoon Street. Like probably a little after ten Saturday night.”

“And someone got injured?”
Shantia Gill
“Apparently; that was information that I received from the CIB. But I was there. Actually I am still in a shock. I was like caught in a crossfire. I was trying to run for my life. And like I said, I am not sure if I was the intended target because I don’t have any problem with anybody. This is really hard for me cause I cannot explain what took it to this level, you know.”
Duane Moody
“Do you believe your house was burned down as a result of that incident that took place?”
Shantia Gill
“It wants to seem that way…”
Duane Moody
“So definitely an arson?”
Shantia Gill
“Yeah.”
The family is asking for assistance to build back their house. If you would like to help, Gill can be reached at phone number 601-7860 or 621-5709.
