One dead, several injured in accidents
There was a fatal accident on the road between San Ignacio and Benque on Thursday. Pedro Caretella, a forty-six year old resident of Esperanza Village, apparently lost control of his Isuzu Trooper sometime around midnight and it overturned. He was thrown from the vehicle and landed fifty feet away. Caretella was pronounced dead on arrival at the San Ignacio Hospital.
Several people were also injured in another incident in the Orange Walk District this morning when a Volvo truck loaded with sand collided with a pickup. The driver of the pick-up Francisco Requeña of Esperanza Village received serious injuries and was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital. Four other passengers received minor injuries. Police have detained the driver of the sand truck pending investigations.
And this just in, a late evening traffic accident on the Northern Highway has sent as many as four people to the K.H.M.H. The accident happened shortly before six at mile three and a half in front of Caribbean Tire when a small grey car, carrying two people, and a goods vehicle collided causing the utility vehicle to flip unto its side. Of the four people involved, the passengers in the truck appear to have been the worst affected.
