Four arrested in Cayo jackings
It was a series of brazen crimes that shocked residents of the Cayo District… but tonight police in San Ignacio have arrested and charged four men they believe are responsible for the February twelfth shooting of a police officer and robbery of several other people including the town’s mayor. Thirty-six year old Perfidio del Cid, nineteen year old Omar Azanon, twenty-four year old Manuel Perez, and thirty-three year old Hilberto Lopez were this morning charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of conspiracy to rob. Further investigations are expected to result in one or more of the accused being charged in the shooting of police constable Kevin Jacobs, now receiving treatment in Merida. Del Cid, Azanon, and Perez are Guatemalans, while Lopez is Honduran. All four reside in the Cayo District. They have been remanded to Hattieville prison until their next court date on April sixth.
