Funds raised for wounded officer
Police officers in San Ignacio have rallied around a wounded colleague and raised funds to assist with the cost of his medical treatment abroad. P.C. Kevin Jacobs, who was shot during an exchange of fire with Guatemalan bandits earlier this month, is in a Merida hospital with a bullet lodged in his brain and part of his jaw shattered. This morning Superintendent Nicholas presented a check for four thousand five hundred dollars to P.C. Jacobs’s mother Ruby Nikell. A statement was issued from police today saying the entire department continues to pray for Jacob’s full recovery.
