F.F.B. back on the field, heads to Supreme Court

The latest goal scored in the pitched battle for control of football in Belize was made by the Football Federation of Belize today when the Supreme Court granted them leave to apply for an order of certiorari. The order would nullify the decision of the National Sports Council, which cancelled the F.F.B.’s registration as a sporting organisation. The court also gave the F.F.B. an interim injunction, preventing the Sports Council from denying them use of public football fields. That injunction is to last until the trial of the certiorari application, which goes before Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh on March eighteenth. President of the F.F.B., Bertie Chimilio, told News 5 this evening that although the case is still pending, he sees today’s decision as quote “a victory for football.” He vowed that the F.F.B. will stay to the end and says he looks forward to the March hearing.
