Pair of Shootings on Southside Sunday Night

So far, we’ve reported on four Belizeans who were murdered over the weekend. But there was other violence. On Sunday night, there were two separate shootings on the south side. A fourteen year old female student was shot in her legs. Police believes the adult who was with the minor at the time of the shooting was the intended target. In the second shooting a Belize City man was shot. Police say they have no clue why he was shot because he doesn’t have a criminal past. According to reports, the shootings happened within an hour of each other on the south side.

“Within a one hour period, we hadtwo separate shootings. The first one happened at eight-thirty p.m. at the corner of Curassow Street and North Creek in Belize City. Hilda Flowers a fourteen year old student received gun shots to both of her foot. She is in a stable condition and should be recovering at this time. Information is that Hilda Flowers and Jareef Flores who are friends were standing right at the corner of Curassow Street and North Creek when a vehicle drove past them and fired one single shot causing the injury to Hilda. So far the Police have recorded the statement of a witness and have positively identified the gunman. We are seeking one person who is to have been identified and certainly assure the public that we will have an arrest during the day. The second incident that happened 9:30 pm, it was at the corner of Kings Street and Euphrates Avenue in Belize City when Evannie Flowers, a thirty three year old Belize national, was riding his bicycle when he was approached by two male persons on a motorcycle who fired several gunshots at him which caught him twice on his left and right foot. He is in a stable condition, recovering at this time. The motive of that is still unknown. We are working on the case. Evannie Flowers is a known person who works at the Sexy Chicken fast food on Barrack Road; no gang member, no gang associate. He is a work man, so the motive of that is still unknown at this time. We believe that both incidents are separate and they have nothing in relation. Hilda Flowers and Devannie Flowers are no connection. They are no family. We are still working on the case.”
