He may not be well known among the younger population, but to those over forty, Ken Boothe is well known for wooing audiences everywhere he goes. Boothe, described as the Voice of Choice, is recognised as one of the greatest artists in the history of Reggae music. Boothe’s singing career dates back to 1962 and includes a total of twenty-one albums and several awards. This morning, Boothe arrived in Belize for a Valentine’s Day performance he says Belizeans will not soon forget. News 5 Jacqueline Woods caught up with the artist at the Philip Goldson International Airport
Ken Boothe, Musician
“I am looking forward to so much things. I want to go and look at the place. The main thing I am looking forward to is the performance. I have a nice little repertoire of songs that I am going to do. I am probably not as popular with some of the people in Belize, so I am going to try and convince them…”
Jacqueline Woods
“That shouldn’t be too difficult.”
Ken Boothe
“No, it’s not difficult at all. But when you’re new to somewhere you have to pray that they will accept what you are doing.”
Jacqueline Woods
“What has been the response from the public?”
Rene Villanueva, Managing Director, R.S.V. Limited
“So far so good. I think it will be an excellent show-I don’t think, I know it is going to be an excellent show because just to see Ken Boothe come on stage with “Freedom Street.” We gonna walk, gonna walk down Freedom Street. I mean that song really is a very deep song if you listen to the words of that song and you realise how deep that song is. Besides that he also has other hits, “Everything I Own.” “Everything I Own” became a hit not only in the Caribbean, but also in Europe, it was number one in Britain, it was the big song all over for him. Then the “Train is Coming”, which is his latest re-release that he did along with Shaggy that made it in the theme song of the “Money Train” movie.
If you are interested in seeing Ken Boothe live in concert, the show takes place, this Saturday at the Princess. Tickets are for thirty-five dollars in advance and forty dollars at the door. The concert is being held to commemorate the eleventh anniversary of Love F.M.
