2 Killed in Corozal, Stann Creek in Traffic Accidents
There were three traffic accidents reported over the weekend; two of them fatal to pedestrians. On Sunday night there was a hit and run in San Narciso Village, Corozal District. Belize Defence Force soldier Norman Slusher was driving a black vehicle around seven-ten in the evening when he knocked down and killed thirty-nine year old Lionel Martinez who was walking along the Philip Goldson Highway. Slusher fled the scene while Martinez died on the spot. Down south in the vicinity of Kendal, Guatemalan national twenty-seven year old Mari Jimenez was also walking when she was struck down by a passing vehicle. The driver was thirty-five year old Antonio Balon of neighbouring Maya Center. Jimenez died of her injuries at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga. The third RTA also occurred on Sunday night, at around nine but here in Belize City. Police were called to the scene of an accident involving a Toyota Tundra and a motorcycle in the area of Belize Mills Limited. This one appeared to be non-fatal.
