Security Officer Foils Attempted Robbery at Corozal Pawnshop
A foiled robbery in Corozal Town this morning has left one would-be robber hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. At about nine-thirty-two a.m., police were called out to Rapidito Pawnshop on Fourth Avenue in Corozal Town where a gunman had entered the business establishment in an attempt to rob the proprietor of his money. The alert security officer posted inside the pawnshop, pulled out his licensed weapon and opened fire at the would-be robber, hitting him in the abdomen. The thief would escape in a getaway car, but not after firing up to ten shots at the owner of the business and the security guard. They sped off to the Phillip Goldson Highway, but the getaway was short-lived because quick response and collaboration with Orange Walk Police led to the interception of the vehicle. Four men, including the suspected injured robber were detained. Senior Superintendent Dennis Arnold spoke with News Five today via phone about the incident.

“Upon leaving the establishment, a police officer passing in his personal vehicle, saw the person running from the establishment and followed the vehicle the person got into to and trailed them to the Phillip Goldson Highway. While on the Phillip Goldson Highway, he made a call to the police station and we made call to Orange Walk Police who intercepted them in San Jose Village, Orange Walk District. Four male persons were in the vehicle. One, the driver from Corozal; the other three persons were from Belize City. One of the persons was seen with what appears to be a bullet wound to the right side of the abdomen, little above the hip. He was taken to the Orange Walk Hospital for treatment.”

“Nothing, they got nothing. Apparently, the security guard was alerted and when he saw the person brandishing a firearm, he was the one who opened fire, hitting the person and upon hitting the person, the person returned fire.”
