Football Winds Down on Sports Monday
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.
Two bitter rivals came into week 16 looking to secure a berth in the advent of the 4-team playoffs of the PLB Opening Tournament at the MCC Grounds as the Belize Defense Force and FC Belize clashed in a major showdown. Some ten minutes in, Osmar Duran fires this bouncer….Rodrigo Vasquez fumbles the same to Treimayne Harris who gives the B.D.F. a 1-zip lead. Russel Casanova gets this half a chance to equalize but his turn fails to deliver the goods. It’s more FC pressure when Floyd Jones delivers this corner kick; the defensive header forces Glenford Chimilio into the save. Jordi Lopez bodies him to the ground for which he gets a yellow card. Folks the effort from Orlando Trapp puts the game out of reach as he beats Vasquez with the pace of this punch from inside the box. The Belize Defence Force assured a berth to the playoffs with the 2-zip victory. With 30 pts the B.D.F. is in 2nd place behind the amazing Belmopan Bandits who with a record of 12 wins and 3 draws for 39 pts would finish an undefeatable season. The Bandits conclude its schedule this weekend when they host the B.D.F.—win, lose or draw, they are number 1.
Turning to the cycling scene, the Chief’s 7 Seas Thanksgiving 45 plus category race proved to be a big thing yesterday with a race that rode for 50 miles from Leslie’s to the northern highway and back. we take you to the start where we find a whopping 766 riders competing in the elite, juniors and weekend warriors class. however, the big focus is on the 23 riders in the 45 and over category. In money time, Warren Coye of Santino is the big man forcing Digicell’s Robert Mariano into 2nd place while Isaiah Willacy of Santino’s, the only man to bridge the gap, settled for 3rd.
Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
