4 Detained Over Nelson Zelaya Murder; Police Still Puzzled Over Motive

Nelson Zelaya

Four persons, including two minors from the neighboring village of Biscayne are tonight in police custody as the investigation continues into the midday shooting and subsequent murder of Nelson Zelaya. The twenty-seven-year-old was shot at close range, by someone he reportedly knew, as he made his way to his wife and kids who were at home. Zelaya was shot to the face and rushed by police to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he died shortly after. This morning, Ladyville Police Commander Assistant Superintendent Juanito Cocom told News Five that a motive has still not been established.

“We had some operations over the weekend with the information we gathered pertaining to the culprits of that murder. We have detained four persons, among them there are two minors. Presently we are going through the legal process and a charge is most likely to be forthcoming pertaining to this.”

Reporter

“Are the persons detained cooperating with police?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“I cannot comment on that.”

Duane Moody

“Sir, now last week, because of the early stages in which the incident took place and police gave an interview, the police had not – at that time – established a motive for the crime. Have you guys determined that so far?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“Still yet we have not determined a motive. We are in that process as we speak.”

Reporter

“Were there any witnesses?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“Yes there were witnesses.”

Duane Moody

“The weapon has been recovered?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“Not as yet.”

Duane Moody

“A postmortem has been performed on the body. Did it determine which type of firearm was used? From the investigation, did it determine that he was shot at close range?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“The postmortem results have come in but we cannot divulge it as well.”

Reporter

“The person detained arte they known to police?”

ASP Juanito Cocom

“Yeah…two of them.”
