Abandoned baby doing well
Since News 5 ran the heartbreaking story of a newborn baby left at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in December, a number of viewers have been enquiring about her welfare. This evening I caught up with the baby, and as you will see in the following report, not only does she looks pretty in pink, but she is just fine.
Jacqueline Woods, Reporting
Since this beautiful baby girl was abandoned at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital on December twelfth, she has been well. The baby dubbed “Jane Doe” was placed with the Human Services Department.
Veradale Bennett, Human Development Officer
“Baby Jane Doe is doing okay right now.”
Jacqueline Woods
“There are no health problems?”
Veradale Bennett
“So far no. We have run some test and they all came back clean.”
Jacqueline Woods
“Where is she presently and will Baby Jane Doe be placed for adoption?”
Veradale Bennett
“Baby Jane Doe is in foster care right now and she is up for adoption, or should be. Maybe in the next week or so we should know what the legal status of the child is and she should be cleared for adoption.”
Jacqueline Woods
“The mother has not come forward?”
Veradale Bennett
“No, the mother nor any family member.””
Jacqueline Woods
“I understand that the Human Services Department has been swamped with a number of requests from families interested in adopting her.”
Veradale Bennett
“Yes, we’ve had a number of requests, even from overseas. We’ve touched base with most applicants and asked them to send in their needed document and each person will go through the screening process.”
Jane, who has a good grip, wakes up twice a night for her bottle and is generally a quiet baby… that is until she gets hungry.
Bennett says they are not surprised by the overwhelming response because people are usually more interested in adopting newborns than older children.
