Police officers stabbed by detainee
Two police officers were treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital today after a detainee reportedly attacked them with a broken light fixture. According to a release from the Police Department, around nine this morning twenty-five year old Albert Middleton, who was in a holding cell, asked to be taken to the restroom. On the way back to the cell he tried to escape, but Constable Sambula blocked the way. It was then that he lashed out with a broken light fixture he had removed from the bathroom and stabbed Sambula in the stomach. Special Constable Bacab went to Sambula’s aid and was slashed to the face near his left eye. Police say Middleton was subdued by several other officers and Sambula and Bacab taken to the hospital. Middleton, who had originally been detained pending an assault charge, now faces an attempted murder charge and additional assault charges.
