Author writes about fatherless experience
They say there is a book inside each of us, if we could just sit down and write it. Sheldon Samuels may have taken a few years to get his thoughts on paper, but now his is the latest work on the Belizean book circuit. It’s called “A Father in Need of a Father’s Love” and the author hopes it will help other men–and women–to understand the pain of growing up without a father… and just as importantly, discover that yes, they can go on to be good parents themselves. News 5’s Patrick Jones, who browsed through the pages, gives this one a thumbs up.

The fifty-four page paperback tells the story of Michael, a Belizean youth who grew up without the love of his father. Author Sheldon Samuels says it took him fifteen years to pen the manuscript, which is based on personal experiences.

“I never really had a father either. But because of what God has done in my life, I was able to write this book, which I wanted to tell others that there is still hope. There is a way to solve this problem of fatherless ness and I want to expose it too because it is a problem in Belize. And people need to realize that we have big problem and start to look for solutions to solve this problem.”
And part of the problem, Samuels says, is finding a solution that truly works. While his book is not the definitive answer, this first time author says it wouldn’t hurt to try something different.

“People tend to look to psychologists, which there is no problem with psychologists nor counsellors, but they have forgotten to look to the church, they have forgotten to look at God as the solution. And God does not just only want to be a ruler, He wants to be a father, he wants to be a friend and when we can embrace God as a father, then that would be the turning point in our lives when we will be able to truly embrace our families, embrace our children on a whole. So I look at the solution as God as a father.”
The book, “A Father In Need of A Father’s Love” is divided into four parts that takes the reader from the early sixties to the present. The book is set in Belize and while it targets fathers, Samuels says women will find it makes for good reading.

“I want everybody to read this book. Like I told my friends it’s a book written for men but every woman should read it. It’s only then that they will be able to truly understand some of the problems, some of the anger, the bitterness, the hate, the resistance that the men go through. And when they are able to truly understand that they will be able to better cope with them.”

The book, published by Samuel’s wife, Linda, sells for fifteen dollars and is available from Waver Pharmacy on North Front Street and from the author.
