Death Threat Against A.G. Was Email Spam
There has been speculation that Retreage’s resignation comes on the heels of a death threat she received via email sometime a few weeks ago. The outgoing Attorney General said that while her personal security was stepped up in the wake of the threat, the Central Information Technology Office in Belmopan was critical in tracking down the origin of the message. According to Retreage, the spam mail was sent all the way from the United States.
Vanessa Retreage, Attorney General/Minister of Lands
“Yes, about a month ago I received an email, and an email indicating that there was some payment of money to do harm to me, not specifically referring to me, a generalized email. I reported it to the police and for that period of time they heightened security until they could have determined whether or not the threat was real or it was just spam. They concluded their investigation along with the CITO and they concluded that investigation and it was spam. It came from a server in the United States, a corrupt server in the United States that had been hacked by an individual. So that is the extent of any threat or lack thereof that I received.”
