Is Senate Special Select Committee Moving Too Slowly? Chairman Says No

Now back to the senate…Three meetings of the Committee are now complete and some are wondering why the Committee is taking its time and moving so cautiously in relation to questioning the Audit Department. Today Senators spent some time questioning the visa process and how it related to whether visas issued to persons who later illegally got nationality and passports are themselves tainted. Committee Chair Aldo Salazar says they are satisfied with the progress of the Committee and detailed where they are going with the questioning.

“We anticipated that the sessions with the Auditor General would be drawn out; I’m not sure if we will be able to get through with her testimony today; if not, perhaps by the next session.”

Reporter

“Sir, has it been what you expected so far?”

Aldo Salazar

“Yes, it’s been what I expected. The Auditor General’s Report was submitted and we are just going through what is in there; so, we are asking her to highlight certain portions of it which are of concern to us; so it is going as expected.  The purpose of today’s questioning is to establish, for me personally, is to establish what was the process, what was the proper process in issuing visas; and then in order for us to determine, then, whether there was a breach of that process. So, that is really our role; to establish what the process was according to the Auditor General’s view, and to see what breaches occurred; if any.”
