B.N.T.U. steadfast: return to school on January ninth
According to career educator Adelaida Guerra, trade unionist and claimant in the case brought against government, B.N.T.U. is quite clear on its position based on the existing Education Rules. Acting on the advice of Senior Counsel Courtenay, the union will remain firm in requesting that teachers return to school on January ninth.
Adelaida Guerra, Executive Member, B.N.T.U.
“As all of you know, B.N.T.U. has sent out a press release in that regard in which we were telling them about the advice given by the lawyer and you have heard him saying it at this time which is supposed to be that we are suppose to go back on the ninth of January, that is the prescribed time for our vacation. And so to us now it all depends on the teachers to be able to stand up for their right and I am appealing to them to stand of for their right. They are supposed to go back on the ninth and that is when we are going to be going. But it all depends on them and I am also appealing to the parents because I know that several parents have made comments and are concerned about the school opening on the third of January. They are not happy about it because many of them had made preparation of traveling during this time. So, I am appealing on the teachers to stand up for their rights and also on parents to support the teachers in that case.”
