Monterrey Summit ends, P.M. heads to Guatemala

Prime Minister Said Musa and his diplomatic entourage are on their way to Guatemala tonight, having participated in the Special Summit of the Americas in Monterrey, Mexico. Musa chaired today’s meetings on Economic Growth with Equity, recommending measures to prevent poverty and ensure equal distribution of wealth. According to a government issued release, the Prime Minister maintained the need for quote, “a legislation-backed reform program aimed at regularizing informal property rights of low-income and subsistence workers in order to more equitably distribute land and empower more people to access credit.” To that end, the Summit has sought financial aid from institutions that include the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. Other topics discussed at the two-day conference included Development Financing, Enabling Economic Environments, Migration, and Enhancing Social Stability and Mobility. The Special Summit of the Americas was attended by thirty-four countries from throughout the Americas. The Prime Minister travels to Guatemala to attend tomorrow’s inauguration of newly elected President Oscar Berger.
