Elderly Corozal man killed by machete men
An elderly Corozal man is dead and two young men are detained pending a charge for murder. Police say seventy six year old Alfonso Santos was chopped in the back of his head during an attack by a pair of assailants as he rode his bicycle on Corozo Street, a newly constructed road that links San Andres Village with the Venezuelan housing site area of the town. Police believe that the motive for the attack was robbery as the pockets of the victim’s pants were turned out when he was found him lying in a drain. Witnesses say Santos, who is originally from San Andres Village, fought with his attackers but was subdued by the machete wound. Police originally detained three people, but have since released one of the youths. One of those in custody is believe to have inflicted the fatal wound. Charges against both are expected shortly.
