Consultation on Multibeam and Seep Sea Survey Coming in January
Government is holding a public consultation on marine multi-beam and Sea Seep Survey. In a release issued today, the Ministry of Economic Development and Petroleum says that they, along with the Geology Department, intend to complete the multi-beam and sea seep survey in the deep offshore territorial waters of Belize. The release says that the multi-beam survey “produces bathymetric maps or water depth maps which are essential baseline data needed for the country for navigation and scientific information. It also produces additional data such as seafloor maps which show geological features, including sea mounds formed from hydrocarbon seepage which can be useful for geological analysis.” The consultation will be held on January eighteenth, 2017and will be repeated the following week on January twenty-fifth. Both sessions will be held at seven pm at the Radisson Fort George Hotel in Belize City. The consultation will include information on the survey methods, techniques, equipment used, environmental concerns and mitigation measures, the products of the survey and the benefits to the country. Attendees will get the opportunity to ask questions and share their views.
