Lucky tour operator wins raffle 3 times

He is no stranger to the spotlight, and his public battles in the cruise tourism sector have earned him a fair share of friends and enemies, but President of the Belize Cruise Ship Industry Association Tom Greenwood is fast gaining notoriety in another area: winning big prizes in raffles at the Princess Hotel and Casino. While he’s twice won new vehicles, this month’s raffle, as part of the Hotel’s anniversary celebrations, netted Greenwood some cold hard cash, which he says could not have come at a better time.

“Well first of all I am still in a state of shock because it’s a triple win. November and December last year I won a pickup truck in each month, two pickup trucks. And this time my name was pulled out of the barrel and I won twenty-five thousand dollars. Well, I can say a number of things. They always say everything comes to those who wait. And I always have to say thank God, but I hate to put God together with gambling; that’s not a good concept. But as far as I am concerned I play five-cent games. It’s a delight I have to ease up the pressures of life and all that. And I take my family in there, notably my wife and we enjoy some of it and thank goodness and thank the heavens that came up.”

“The thing is that there were bills to pay. Serious bills to pay, and there are still bills to pay. All I can hope is that lady luck is going to smile on other Belizeans the way she has smiled at me.”

While he would not divulge the details, Greenwood says he did share some of his winnings with some deserving people and that he will continue to play those five cents games at the casino.
