Priest chops fellow priest in Cayo
Precise details have been difficult to come by, but sources have confirmed to News 5 that both police and the Roman Catholic Church are investigating an incident in which one priest chopped another priest, leaving him seriously injured. Reports are that sometime last week, Father Santos Sol became embroiled in an argument with a fellow Catholic clergyman when a third priest intervened to calm the situation. What the peacemaker apparently got for his trouble was the business end of a machete. While News 5 has been unable to learn the exact nature of the injuries, San Ignacio police have confirmed that Father Sol, who is from Honduras, has been charged with harm. The three priests were staying at the Santa Familia monastery, but it is not clear if the incident occurred there. Likewise, the rumour mill has put forth various motives for the assault, but none have been verified.
