Cayo musicians combine talent on CD

Story Picture
If there is strength in numbers then the latest musical release is as strong as they come. The contributors number a baker’s dozen, all from the Cayo District, who have joined together to bring their talent to the public. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods asked the producer to explain what’s behind the new CD.

Nadir Leal, Producer, Belizean Entertainment

“Belizean Entertainment is basically just kids that are have already graduated from sixth form and having jobs, with knowledge of computers. We use our knowledge in computers with our hobby, music and we merge the two of them together and we see how we can help ourselves. And in doing that we found out that there are not a lot of things…a lot of complicated stuff you need for a studio. Our interest is music and so we take our computer knowledge and we started making our own studio with software and so on. We found out a software to make music, software to record, we have our mike and different hardware.”

Producer Nadir Leal says they will use the hardware to promote the work of new and young artists who usually have a difficult time making it on their own.

“There are a lot of artists in Belize, a lot of talent, but there is little opportunity for our general type of music, right. Dancehall, Reggae there too little opportunity for them to get some where or even have their music heard on the radio.”

On Friday, the group released its first CD. Hot Again Riddim features thirteen artists from the Cayo District.

Nadir Leal

“So we took this initiative of making our own dancehall, like the Jamaicans, our own original music. We ask different artists in Cayo that we already know that are making a little song here or there to come and try and be a part of this project, an original project, original rhythm and all of them are up to it. We at Belizean Entertainment recorded it and we produced it just for them to try and see for them to get an opportunity for them.”

Leal says proceeds from the sale of the CD will go towards improving their recording studio. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
