Ladyville tops Corozal in B.P.F.L. play

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday. With the Regent Insurance Cup Tournament concluded, we’ve turned our attention to the B.P.F.L.’s B-League currently into its third week of regular season play.

So welcome to Sandhill where they pitch today displays the obvious signs of damage from the recent weather, but the show must go on.

At the kick off it’s the host team, Ladyville Creative Tiles, against the Corozal Strikers… and we’re underway.

The pitch is indeed a soggy mess in some spots and there’s obvious difficulty for either team to display much needed accuracy.

Hey guys, will somebody please clear the ball out of goal–so Lorenzo Diaz takes advantage, but his shot for Ladyville goes real wide.

At the other end Delwin Inez fires to put Corozal on the scoreboard first, but Elias Hercules comes up with a great save for Ladyville. In the meantime, give respect to a great trick shot from Corozal’s Alonzo Andueza, but it does miss the target.

Downfield, Ladyville goes for the long distance bombs, but the right foot shot inches over the crossbar. We’re some thirty-six minutes in when Thedran Reid wins this test of wills to float a left foot perfectly into the back of the net against a beaten Benancio Sutherland as Ladyville takes a 1-zip lead.

Corozal tries to respond off this corner kick, but number five Adrian Corea blows the left foot punch.

Just before the half, the tile factory almost makes it 2-nil on this spotkick, but Sutherland recovers in time to make the save. After intermission, the Corozal Strikers come out pressing and indeed should have done better with this nice centre from Delwin Inez.

Meanwhile, Corozal has problems clearing this corner kick–Thedran Reid finds himself at the right place at the right time and his header makes it a 2-zip Ladyville lead.

Of course Zair Witz could have halved the deficit on this press, but Elias Hercules does enough to save the goal.

Folks, we must say Edwin Reyes shows great skill on this move, but he’ll have to polish his finish to help his team. On this trip downfield Corozal again goes to the long-range missile, but again Hercules turns it away from the V.

Noel Corea then gets his turn to fire from point-blank range to put his team on the scoreboard, but misses the target. So Ladyville looks for more, and indeed Thedran Reid should have scored this open look that gets rejected by the far upright. In the closing minutes of the ballgame Edwin Perez takes this Reid pass to make amends for his earlier miss as Ladyville Creative Tiles goes on to post the 3-zip big W.

In other action from around the B-League over the weekend, Lake United double Youth for the Future 2-0, Rural All Stars blanked Lazio 1-zip, Hattieville clobbered Caye Caulker 4-1, AF Club edged AC Milan 1-zip, and Delta Sport beat Yabra United 1-nil.

In closing folks, we just want to remind you of the fourteenth KREM Cycling Classic which runs on New Year’s Day. You sure want to keep track of that.

That’s it for now, we invite you back same time, same place, next week. Jah over all! I’m James Adderley.
