U.S. nurse charged with “mischievous act”
After two nights as a guest at the Punta Gorda police station, a U.S. nurse was finally released from custody this evening. In the end, fifty-four year old Donna Reishus was charged with the crime of “committing a mischievous act” when police and prosecutors could not find a more specific charge. A police press release indicates that the mischievous act in question was her alleged attempts “to interfere with the course of justice by interacting with certain witnesses in a case presently before the Punta Gorda courts.” Reishus was one of several Toledo residents who had offered to help News 5 investigate reports of police improprieties in connection with the questioning of witnesses in the case of sexual exploitation of children by three U.S. citizens. Reishus signed for police bail and was ordered to appear in court on December twenty-third. Police have confiscated her passport pending the outcome of her trial.
