Story Picture
There is more police news tonight… but not the type we’re used to. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods has more.

Police work, despite the demands of the season, is not only about cracking crime. This year officers will be spreading some Christmas cheer especially to those persons who may not otherwise be remembered.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer

“It used to be done prior and it had been discontinued for a while, but the current Commissioner insisted that we get back out there and show the lighter side of the Police Department, the softer side if you will.”

Since December thirteenth, the police band has been in full swing touring various establishments in the city. This morning they were more than welcomed by the elderly at the Mercy Kitchen and Clinic.

“Well what we have done, we’ve assembled a band of police officers and a few people recruited from the community at large. Also, we have a choir that is doing carolling. We went to the Dorothy Menzies Children’s Home, we went to the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly and earlier today we were at the Mercy Kitchen. The response has been overwhelming.”

Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid says they plan to make the activity an annual event. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.

You can also join in the fun as this Friday, the Police band will be a part of the Belize City Council’s Christmas programme at Battlefield Park. The concert starts at six p.m.
