Drunk driving claims life of O.W. teen
A night of merrymaking, lots of booze, and two speeding cars on the Northern Highway were a recipe for disaster early this morning in the Orange Walk District. According to police, a group of eight friends had gone out on the town Tuesday night and around three-thirty on Wednesday morning boarded separate vehicles and headed towards Corozal. When they reached between miles sixty-one and sixty-two near San Jose Village, one of the vehicles, a white Honda, attempted to overtake a green Saturn. Police say the two cars came in contact with each other and the impact caused the Saturn to run off the road and into a nearby pasture, while the Honda flipped several times. Most of the occupants walked away with only minor injuries, but one passenger in the Saturn, eighteen-year-old Nadia Yah, was not so lucky. She sustained severe head and body injuries and died on the spot. Police say they have taken blood samples from the survivors of the crash and are continuing their investigations to determine if criminal charges will be brought.
