Agassi Finnegan is Called to the Bar
Agassi Finnegan, the daughter of Minister Michael Finnegan, was this afternoon called to the Bar in a ceremonial session held in the chamber of Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. The induction was witnessed by many including Finnegan’s family, friends and legal colleagues. Notably present for the ceremony was Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber as well as former P.U.P. minister Ralph Fonseca, who is known to have close ties with the Finnegans. Agassi, who is already a crown counsel at the Solicitor General’s office, will now be able to engage in private practice.

“I haven’t decided if that is the path that I want to take. I know that after this year, I will be planning to do a master in medical law. And so I believe that that would be able to help the government in forming policy as it relates to the health service in Belize. So I may very well be remaining in the government service for the rest of my life, but we never know.”

“But of course being in the government service and your last name dah Finnegan may at some point prove problematic because—although some may say otherwise—U.D.P. won’t be around forever.”

“Yes but I would hope that my work ethic would determine how long my tenure with the government of Belize would last and not my last name. Excitement, happiness – I think those are the best words to describe what I feel right now. I mean I’ve been practicing before the courts for the past two years now; that nervousness never goes away. And so I am still nervous; I feel butterflies so that is what I am feeling right now.”
