Two fatal stabbings mar weekend
This weekend two Belizeans lost their lives to stab wounds almost simultaneously in different parts of the country. News 5’s Jacqueline Woods examined the circumstances behind the homicide that occurred just after midnight Saturday in Belize City.

Twenty-one year old Jermaine Kareem Ireland was inside the Lion King nightclub on King Street when he apparently became involved in an altercation with a former girlfriend. Mother of the deceased, Dawn Anderson, says she does not know if the young woman left the club but she allegedly made a phone call and then sometime later a pair of young men entered the establishment and attacked her son.

“They come and they went after Jermaine, and Jermaine mi deh backwards. And he cut Jermaine inna his back and when Jermaine swing around Jermaine start to fight, dah two ah them mi di beat him in deh.”
Ireland received multiple stab wounds and died on the way to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Anderson says the way in which her son was chopped she is convinced that they went there with the intention of murder.

“He get a big one inna his neck, this part of his hand cut out, I see some big hole (points to back), cause it deh deep in, bout three or four.”
Anderson says she does not know if it was jealousy that triggered the argument between her son and the woman. The police wasted no time in arresting the man they believe inflicted the fatal wounds. Twenty-three year old Revelino Martinez has been arrested and charged with the murder. Jacqueline Woods for News 5.
Meanwhile, at that same time, but sixty-two miles to the west, another murder was unfolding. Reports are that thirty-seven year old James McKoy and forty-one year old Asband Anderson got into an argument around twelve-thirty on Saturday morning. During the fight, in front of the Plum Tree Bar in Unitedville, Anderson took out a knife and stabbed McKoy several times in his chest and abdomen, killing him almost instantly. Police say their investigations revealed that the murder was the result of a long-standing feud between the two men. Anderson has been arrested and charged with murder.
