Punta artist unleashes new album on the public

Story PictureHe’s among the top names in Punta Music in Belize, we are talking about Supa G, whose original name is Lensford Martinez. Supa G has just released his new CD ‘Club Jam’, which features collaborations with local artists such as Lova Boy, Continental Cat and Maestro. But this CD is not the usual sound of Supa G and instead of Punta, he’s tapped into soca music. He recently stopped by our studios to talk about his new flavour.

Lensford ‘Supa G’ Martinez, Musician
“This album, I went a little bit out of the box to try something new and so far we’ve been getting good response from the Caribbean. We’ve got people emailing us from Trinidad saying they love the two singles that we’ve sent already, so we’re having positive feedback.”

Duane Moody
“Fourteen tracks on this new album. Which is your best and why?”

Lensford ‘Supa G’ Martinez
“The single is Whine It, track one, which we did a video. We shot a video for ‘Whine It’ Supa G featuring Lover Boy but my favourite track would be more love.”

Duane Moody
“You want to give us a sample of that song sir?”

Lensford ‘Supa G’ Martinez
“Yea.” (Singing ‘More Love’…)

Duane Moody
“What has you here still doing this?”

Lensford ‘Supa G’ Martinez
“First of all I must say a lot prayers; I pray a lot. I work very hard in perfecting my craft and also as a music lover and as someone that loves Belize and I want to help put Belize on that market whereby we will be categorized on the same level as the other Caribbean countries musically. I’m trying something different because I noticed that there’s a huge market for Soca music in the Caribbean and in Europe but I am trying something new and see how well I would do in that market. Punta Rock is good. I love Punta music but somehow we don’t have a huge market out there in the Caribbean for Punta rock.”

Club Jam is currently available in music outlets in Belize City, Belmopan, Dangriga and Orange Walk. For each copy sold, Supa G will be donating a dollar to the Belize National Youth Cadet.
