Kids paint their way to Yaoling Art Studio

Story PictureClasses will soon recess and if you are looking for a summer program for kids, there is the Yaoling Art Studio. Their program includes classes in drawing, painting, Chinese calligraphy, pottery and sculpting. The art school is also organizing an exhibition of the paintings of budding artists with the help of selective businesses that are offering their walls to the art students. Duane Moody has this report.

It offers an opportunity to young people to display their artwork, not necessarily in the formal setting of a gallery. This month, thirty-five young artists at the Yaoling Art Studio will hang up their art pieces at various public places around the City including Celerity Restaurant, D’s Diner and the Sound of Music Academy.

Yaoling Lee, Proprietor, Yaoling’s Art Studio
“I think its very simple; simple. We just display children art work there. People come in and go. We don’t need much people to say oh this exhibition, you go there and go to visit; no. people regularly go to those place and see those art work and those art work to be seen by those people. They cross each other, kind of like chemistry and I hope that this even actions might motivate parents and motivate children as well.”

The young Picasso’s are excited about the exposure they will be getting.

Siian Rancharan, Young Artist
“I have been painting for about maybe three years—mostly I draw but not paint.”

Duane Moody
“What’s your inspiration when it comes to drawing?”

Siian Rancharan
“My inspiration is to go out into the world and show what I can do and show everyone that I can do something and still be proud of myself in my own special way and show my parents that I can be better.”

Emily Magana, Young Artist
“It feels good I guess because it’s a chance to show others what I’ve been doing and how much I have in me and I can show other people and hopefully inspire them into doing art because it’s really good.”

Duane Moody
“How do you feel to have your art and your drawing on the walls of restaurants and places around Belize City?”

Cree Young, Young Artist
“I feel very proud.”

Duane Moody
“How long have you been painting?”

Cree Young
“One year.”

Duane Moody
“and what is it that you’ve learned over the course of the year?”

Cree Young
“I’ve learned even if you don’t paint good or you don’t really know how to draw—anybody can draw even if some people say that your work isn’t good.”

Last November, proprietor, Yaoling Lee, taught only a few kids, but this time around, she has expanded her studio and will host forty-plus children. According to Lee, the after-school program will help develop and enhance the artistic nature and talent of the young minds.

Group of Children
“Art is power!”

Duane Moody
“Do you all love art?”

Group of Children
“Yes!”

Duane Moody, reporting for News Five.

The exhibit ends June thirtieth.
