Suspect detained in shooting
Police have detained a Belize City man accused of shooting twenty-seven year old Alex O’Brien on Wednesday afternoon. The motive for the shooting is not altogether clear, but it appears to have been the result of an old beef. The shooter, a man in his early twenties, is expected to be charged with the crime of attempted murder when he appears in Magistrate’s Court on Friday. O’Brien and a friend were hanging out at the corner of Dean Street and West Collet Canal, near the Kick Down Fence fried chicken establishment, when a man known to the victim opened fire on the duo. The bullets found their mark on the left side of O’Brien’s buttocks, upper left thigh, right upper arm, and the right side of his abdomen. O’Brien remains in stable condition at the K.H.M.H. after undergoing surgery on his arm.
