Northern Fishermen 6 Charged Over Stolen Gun
A gang of six would-be thieves, busted during a foiled robbery attempt at the Northern Fishermen’s Cooperatives on January tenth, appeared before the lower court on Wednesday. Taxi driver Gilroy Thompson, Dorian Blair, Aaron Flowers, Kenroy Vanzie and Collet Montero were previously arraigned for possession of a firearm with intent to commit a crime. They were all remanded into custody until March third. With the exception of Aaron Flowers, who has since received Supreme Court bail, the group appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza where they were read an additional charge of handling stolen goods. Police were able to levy the charge because the firearm in question was confirmed stolen from Alistair Claire, an employee of SOS Security. All, excluding a sixteen-year-old minor, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Earlier this month, when they were brought before the court, the minor pleaded guilty to the firearm and ammunition offenses. In closed court, Magistrate Mendoza spoke with the young man in the presence of his father, in an effort to ensure that he wasn’t being coerced by his accomplices. The magistrate, still not satisfied that the minor understood what he was pleading guilty to, rejected the plea. That’s when the teenager admitted to not having any knowledge of the crime and that he really didn’t want to go to jail for something he never did. With that, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Thompson, who has since received Supreme Court bail, was represented by attorney Darlene Vernon. Aaron Flowers, for whatever reason, was a no-show.
