House Reps Come Together to Support “Bex for Belize,” and Larry Nicasio
Early on Sunday morning, FOX Television in the United States and other broadcasters will be airing the Miss Universe 2017 pageant from the Philippines. News Five has been bringing you nightly updates on Rebecca Rath, Miss Belize Universe, who has been turning heads and getting big attention for our country in Belize’s return to the pageant stage after an absence of some years. The official Miss Universe poll remains open for voting and Belizeans have been enthusiastic in their support for Rath, who completed her preliminary appearances on Wednesday and Thursday. Today, the members of the House of Representatives from the Stann Creek District – the P.U.P.’s Rodwell Ferguson and the U.D.P.’s Frank “Pawpa” Mena – joined in support of Rebecca, a Dangriga native. Mena also “shouted out” another native son, Father Lawrence Nicasio, who has been named to succeed Monsignor Dorick Wright as Roman Catholic Bishop of Belize.

“I want to end on a good note, a matter of national concern. We have a young lady representing Belize at the Miss Universe pageant… (Applause) and she needs all our support; today I think is the last day for voting, so I am urging all Members and all Belizeans – Mister Minister of Tourism, she is the best ambassador for Belize. She was highlighted in the newspaper in England yesterday and New York for her costume with the macaw parrot; she’s doing wonderful, good. So please, let us support her and give her all our support. Thank you! (Applause)”
Frank “Pawpa” Mena, Area Rep., Dangriga
“Madam Speaker, I beg your indulgence to join my brother – you beat me to the punch, Brother Ferguson – to wish Rebecca Rath the very best; and she’s truly making – she’s from my constituency, I must say, and truly making us proud. And I join the Stann Creek West representative in saying continue to vote – it ends tomorrow at seven. Madam Speaker, I’d also like to congratulate another brother of the soil and a good friend of mine, Father Larry Nicasio, who has been… (Applause) Who has certainly been named the new Roman Catholic bishop; our heartfelt congratulations, and we remain so proud of you, Padre. Thanks.”
We will have much more from the House in Monday’s newscast, as well as the result of the Senate’s meeting.
