Santiago Cal exhibit at Image Factory
Belizean artist Santiago Cal is this month holding his second exhibition at the Image Factory. The show, “Durable View”, opens tonight. The display merges sculpture with installation and uses a variety of materials such as tarpaulin, zinc and plastic. A major theme is violence and brutality in art history, including fourteenth century Christian images of Biblical characters. Cal was born in Belmopan, but now teaches sculpture at a university in Lincoln, Nebraska. He has represented Belize at several international exhibitions over the last three years. This year his work travelled to Havana, Merida, and Santo Domingo. “Durable View” runs through January third at the Image Factory.
